James W. Murphy, of Tucson, AZ, is a dedicated volunteer who has devoted over 4,000 hours of his time to Habitat for Humanity. Tucson, AZ, resident James W. Murphy received an award from the organization and a certificate from Barack Obama for his service.
Aside from serving with Habitat for Humanity, Mr. Murphy has actively supported various charities and hospitals, participating in fundraising efforts to construct buildings and cover operational expenses. As president of the Catalina Foothills Kiwanis Club, which is dedicated to fundraising for children dealing with reading difficulties, he led the creation of a mobile kitchen utilized at Tucson's local events, such as fairs and rodeo parades. He directed initiatives that included bringing children and their counselors to the mobile kitchen during events, where he taught them service skills and encouraged interaction with the public.
Mr. Murphy served as a commercial loan officer at Valley National Bank from 1970 to 1983. He holds a bachelor's degree in finance from Northern Arizona University and is a former service member of the US Army.
